History

I-WIN was conceived in January 1995 at the CII Partnership Summit, during the Centenary Celebrations of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at Kolkata. During those celebrations, on behalf of CII, international consultants Arthur D. Little presented a report to the State Government suggesting a vision that the state would be India's most favourable investment destination and Kolkata, the nation's gateway to the East. To achieve this vision, I-win was proposed to be set up and the state government accepted it.

The entire concept of infrastructure development by the private sector being new, the state also lacked the expertise to understand the complex nature of financing infrastructure projects through private initiative. Need was therefore felt to involve a professional organisation which has in-depth understanding of issues in financing and which could structure infrastructure projects that can attract potential non-budgetary resources.

I-WIN is now enabled to do the same in any State in the Nation.
